Showy shrub with abundant, tubular, hot rose-pink blooms in late spring that attract hummingbirds. The flowers stand out against dark burgundy-purple, pointy foliage making it an excellent colour contrast shrub. Upright, rounded shrub that is good as a specimen plant or in the border. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Needs to be planted in a protected area for best results in a zone 3; will benefit from snow cover in winter. Fertilize in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. After flowering is finished, prune back every few years to rejuvenate plant and to allow next years flower buds to set. Dead-heading spent flowers may encourage a new flush of blooms.
