Native shrub with showy, flat, white bloom clusters in spring that mature to edible, bright red berries in summer that are high in Vitamin C. Lobed, green foliage turns red to purple in fall. Hardy, tall, rounded shrub that is good as a background or border shrub. Fruit attracts birds. Low maintenance shrub that prefers moist, well-drained soil but is very adaptable. Fertilize in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Prune as needed in late winter/early spring before new growth emerges; can be cut back heavily to rejuvenate an older plant.
