Bright red tubular blooms cover the plant in spring and often again in late summer and attract hummingbirds. Bright green, pointy foliage on upright, arching branches that give the shrub a loose habit. Good specimen plant or used in the border. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Plant in a protected area for best results; will benefit from snow cover in winter. Fertilize in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. After flowering is finished, prune back every few years to rejuvenate plant and to allow next years flower buds to set. Dead-heading spent flowers may encourage a new flush of blooms.
