Syringa villosa

Shrub: Lilac

Height: 8-10′ Width: 7-8′
Sun: Full Sun Zone: 2

Vigorous and hardy, non-suckering, bushy lilac shrub that is most often used for hedging and windbreaks. Fragrant, pale-lavender, single flowers on showy panicles in early summer. Crinkly, green foliage turns yellow in fall. Ball-shaped, dense habit that doesn’t sucker: great for hedging, mass planting and windbreaks. Blooms later than Common and other lilacs; good cut flower. Best flowering in full sun. Prefers moist, well drained soil but is drought tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Lilacs bloom on old wood: prune right after flowering is finished to allow next years flower buds to set and to promote strong new growth. When planting as bareroot, space 2-3′ apart.

Available in select bareroot and potted sizes.
