Blue Boy Clematis
Clematis integrifolia ‘Blue Boy’
Vines: Clematis
| Height: 10′ | Width: 2-4′ |
| Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 3 |
Fast-growing vine with large (4-5″), nodding bell-shaped, steel-blue blooms with yellow eyes in early summer until August or September. Mid-green, ovate foliage. Non-cling stems that need to be trained to climb up a support structure. Clematis prefer moist, well-drained soil: keep roots cool in summer and protected in winter by covering them with compost or mulch. Fertilize in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Blooms new wood (current seasons). Group C/3 pruning: must be pruned back late winter/early spring before new growth begins and old vines should be removed. Prune back heavily to about 1′ above ground level, leaving about 2-3 buds per stem. If desired, can be pruned back after first flush of flowers to encourage more blooms and better branching.
Available in select potted sizes.
