Tough, Native to Alberta shrub with narrow, silvery foliage on thorny, white-grey branches. Small yellow flowers in spring are followed by bright red berries in late summer that attract birds. Male and female plants are needed for fruit to set. Berries are good for jam and jelly. Very hardy shrub that spreads by suckering: often used as reclamation or barrier plant. Nitrogen fixing plant (roots restore nitrogen from the air back into the soil). Highly tolerant of salt, alkaline soil and other poor soils; drought tolerant once established, does not do well in standing water. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Little pruning needed, can be pruned late winter/early spring before new growth emerges as needed.
Available in select potted sizes.
