Sutherland Cutleaf Golden Elder
Sambucus racemosa ‘Sutherland’
Shrub: Elder/Elderberry
Height: 6-8′ | Width: 6-7′ |
Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 3 |
Striking, deeply serrated golden foliage that has a lacy look and a graceful, upright rounded habit. New foliage emerges a coppery-red. Clusters of tiny, creamy white flower clusters in late spring mature to red, ornamental berries in fall that attract birds. Great colour contract plant for in the border or as a specimen shrub. Best foliage colour in full sun. Prefers moist, well-drained soil but is very adaptable. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Can be pruned back heavily in late winter/early spring before new growth emerges as needed to control size and rejuvenate old stems to keep plant compact and bushy.
Available in select potted sizes.
