Pussy Willow
Salix discolor
Shrub: Willow
| Height: 10-16′ | Width: 10-13′ |
| Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 2 |
Native shrub (sometimes seen as a small, multi-stemmed tree) with long, soft, fuzzy catkins in late winter/early spring. Shiny green leaves with a white underside on smooth grey bark that becomes furrowed with age; an upright, spreading shrub. Prefers full sun and thrives in wet soil: often used in mass plantings for erosion control or near stream banks. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Every 3-5 years, prune back heavily in late winter/early spring before new growth emerges to rejuvenate old stems, or as needed to promote vigorous new growth.
Available in select potted sizes.
