Woods/Wild Rose
Rosa woodsii
Shrub: Rose
| Height: 4-5′ | Width: 4-5′ |
| Sun: Full Sun | Zone: 2 |
Native shrub rose with shades of pink, single blooms with yellow stamens. Blooms from May to July followed by showy orange-red rose hips late summer/early fall. Green foliage on stems that turn red in winter. A spreading, thicket forming, hardy shrub, often used for reclamation and naturalization. Similar to Prickly rose but with less thorns. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Roses need full sun for best flower production and a well-ventilated area; drought tolerant once established in moist, well-drained soil. Avoid getting the foliage wet when watering, instead water at soil level. Flowers on older stems: in spring cut out any winter die back, any shaping should be done right after flowering but you will lose rose hips. Cut at a 45 degree angle rather than straight across, above an outward facing bud. Regular deadheading of finished flowers will promote more flower buds.
Available in select potted sizes.
