Vermillion-red blooms with yellow undersides from summer until fall on a bushy, compact growth habit. Small, finely textured green foliage. Red bloom colour changes to orange-yellow in full sun and in summer heat: will retain its colour better in light to part shade. Great as a specimen shrub, mass plantings or as a low hedge. Tough, adaptable plant that is drought and chinook tolerant and deer resistant. Tolerant of a wide variety of soil conditions but should be kept moist until established: during drought will benefit from extra watering. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Blooms on new wood: annual pruning helps keep the shrub looking tidy and encourages new growth. Cut back one-third of the plant in late winter/early spring before new growth emerges or in fall when plant is dormant.
