Summer Wine Ninebark
Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Seward’
Shrub: Ninebark
| Height: 5-6′ | Width: 5-6′ |
| Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 3 |
Serrated, rich purple foliage emerges crimson in spring and turns red in fall, on this compact, rounded, hardy shrub. Profuse clusters of button-like, pinkish-white flowers cover ends of branches in early summer. Showy red seed capsules in fall and peeling bark which adds winter interest. Best foliage colour in full sun. Tolerant of a wide variety of soil conditions; is drought tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Flowers on old wood: prune after flowering to maintain shape. To rejuvenate an old plant, cut back strongly in late winter/early spring.
Available in select potted sizes.
