Nugget Ninebark
Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Nugget’
Shrub: Ninebark
| Height: 6-7′ | Width: 3.5-5′ |
| Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 3 |
Compact shrub with new foliage emerging golden-yellow then maturing to a showy, lime-green. Clusters of button-like, white flowers appear along stems in early summer, followed by brown seed capsules in fall. Peeling, cinnamon-brown bark adds winter interest. Can be pruned into a round, compact shape or left to have a vase-shaped habit. Best foliage colour in full sun. Tolerant of a wide variety of soil conditions; is drought tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Flowers on old wood: prune after flowering to maintain shape. To rejuvenate an old plant, cut back strongly in late winter/early spring.
Available in select potted sizes.
