Diabolo Ninebark
Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Monlo’
Shrub: Ninebark
| Height: 7-8′ | Width: 6-7′ |
| Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 2 |
Very hardy, upright rounded shrub with dark purple, serrated foliage that turns golden-bronze in fall. Arching branches are covered with button-like, white flower clusters in late spring/early summer that turn into showy, red seed capsules in fall. Papery, peeling bark adds winter interest. Very dependable, tough variety that adds great colour contrast as a specimen plant or in mass plantings. Can be pruned into a round, compact shape or left to have a spreading, arching habit. Best foliage colour in full sun. Tolerant of a wide variety of soil conditions; is drought tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Flowers on old wood: prune after flowering to maintain shape. To rejuvenate an old plant, cut back strongly in late winter/early spring.
Available in select potted sizes.
