Colorful shrub with newly emerging red foliage that has a yellow-green center and matures to a rich burgundy. Clusters of button-like, white blooms emerge from pink buds in early summer, followed by showy red seed capsules in fall. Peeling bark adds winter interest. Upright, rounded form on this hardy shrub. Best foliage colour in full sun. Tolerant of a wide variety of soil conditions; is drought tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Flowers on old wood: prune after flowering to maintain shape. To rejuvenate an old plant, cut back strongly in late winter/early spring.
