Red Osier Dogwood
Cornus sericea
Shrub: Dogwood
| Height: 7-10′ | Width: 7-10′ |
| Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 2 |
Large and rounded form on this very hardy, native shrub with deep-red stems that add great colour contrast in winter. Pointy, green foliage matures to red-purple in fall. Clusters of creamy-white flowers in late spring/early summer mature to ornamental, white-blue berries in late summer that attract birds in winter. Suckering habit: excellent as a hedging or windbreak shrub (plant 2′ apart for hedging) or reclamation plant. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Prune in late winter/early spring to encourage new growth, control size, and keep them dense: remove about 1/3 of oldest stems annually.
Available in select bareroot and potted sizes.
