Fast-growing, tall and wide, very hardy shrub. Compact, soft, green, compound leaflets that mature to yellow in fall. Bright yellow, pea-like flowers in early summer with smooth, olive-green bark. Also known as Siberian Pea shrub. Suckering: excellent as a hedge, shelterbelt or windbreak plant. Plant 1-2′ apart when planting as a bareroot hedge. Heat, drought, salt and alkaline tolerant: does well in poor soil. Nitrogen fixing roots meaning they restore nitrogen from the air back into the soil. Fertilize in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Does well with regular pruning: cut back plant in late winter/early spring to desired shape to control size and encourage new growth; suckers can be removed anytime. When planting as bareroot, space 1-2′ apart.
Available in select bareroot and potted sizes.
