Pyramidal, dense, elegant tree. Small clusters of fragrant, yellow flowers in early summer. Heart-shaped, dark-green leaves mature to yellow in fall; straight, smooth trunk. Very low maintenance making it an excellent shade, lawn, or street tree. Sometimes known as basswood or lime tree. Prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil; avoid very dry or very exposed sites. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Requires very little to no pruning; if needed, prune while dormant in late winter/early spring, dead branches can be removed anytime.
