Fast growing, rounded, dense, hardy tree with a light gray trunk. Clusters of long, white, spring flowers cover the tree in spring and change into small, red-black fruit in summer that attracts birds. Green foliage matures to purple in early summer, adding great colour contrast. Good specimen or privacy tree. Drought tolerant once established; requires moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Prune right after flowering; for major pruning late winter/early spring is best; prune suckers as soon as they appear, dead branches can be removed anytime.
