Fast growing, narrow, columnar, hardy tree with twisted branches. New foliage emerges bronze, matures to green, then yellow in fall. Great screen, windbreak, or privacy tree, especially in urban areas as it has little to no suckers. Plant 3-4′ apart, minimum, when planting as a solid ‘wall’ or windbreak. Aspen grow best in moist, rich soil but can grow in a wide variety of soils and are very adaptable. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Prune while dormant as needed, late winter/early spring is best; suckers should be pruned down as soon as they appear.
