Fast growing, rounded, hardy tree with high, spreading branches. Heart-shaped, green foliage becomes yellow in fall. Smooth, grey-brown bark matures to furrowed with age. Great shelterbelt or windbreak tree. Plant 15′ apart when using as a windbreak. Poplars grow best in moist, rich soil but can grow in a wide variety of soils and are very adaptable. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Prune while dormant as needed, late winter/early spring is best; suckers should be pruned down as soon as they appear.
