Pyrus ussuriensis ‘Paul’

Fruit: Pear

Height: 20-25′ Width: 10-15′
Sun: Full Sun Zone: 3

Very hardy pear for the prairies. Wide, spreading canopy with large, white spring flowers and glossy green foliage that turns a showy purple-bronze in fall. Large, green fruit with firm, juicy flesh and a coarse texture. Great for cooking, baking, juicing and eating fresh: let fruit ripen on counter after picking. Ripens late August to early September. Largest fruit of hardy pear trees for the prairies. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. For major pruning wait until late winter while tree is dormant; suckers or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime. Prune while young to create open centered branching to allow for even sunlight which results in better ripening of fruit and good air circulation.

Requires another variety of pear tree within 500′ for cross-pollination (approximately one city block).

Available in select potted sizes.
