Prunus salicina ‘Brookgold’

Fruit: Plum

Height: 12-20′ Width: 12-20′
Sun: Full Sun Zone: 3

Small, rounded, hardy plum tree that originates out of Brooks, Alberta. Clusters of fragrant, white spring blooms cover the tree before green foliage appears; yellow-gold fall colour. Small to medium size fruit, juicy, sweet-tangy flavour with tender, golden skin and yellow flesh; freestone. Good for fresh eating, great for preserves. Early bloomer; ripens in summer (August). Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. For major pruning wait until late winter while tree is dormant; suckers or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime. Prune while young to create open centered branching to allow for even sunlight which results in better ripening of fruit and good air circulation.

Requires cross-pollination with another plum that blooms at the same time (Bounty, Nanking Cherry, Pfitsen #5 Plum) or a mid-season bloomer (Western Sand Cherry, Opata Cherry-Plum, Tecumseh Plum). Same time bloomers are best but mid-season may also pollinate early or late bloomers. For best results plant trees no farther than 100′ away from each other.

Available in select potted sizes.
