Prunus nigra ‘Bounty’

Fruit: Plum

Height: 16-20′ Width: 13-16′
Sun: Full Sun Zone: 3

Upright, spreading canopy on this very hardy plum tree. Fragrant clusters of white spring blooms and dark green foliage that matures to yellow in fall. Oval-round, medium size, red skinned fruit with yellow-orange flesh that is medium firm, with a juicy tart taste; clingstone. Early bloomer; ripens late August. Great for jams and jellies, not for fresh eating. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. For major pruning wait until late winter while tree is dormant; suckers or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime. Prune while young to create open centered branching to allow for even sunlight which results in better ripening of fruit and good air circulation.

Requires cross-pollination with another plum that blooms at the same time (Brookgold, Nanking Cherry, Pfitsen #5 Plum) or a mid-season bloomer (Western Sand Cherry, Opata Cherry-Plum, Tecumseh Plum). Same time bloomers are best but mid-season may also pollinate early or late bloomers. For best results plant trees no farther than 100′ away from each other.

Available in select potted sizes.
