Mount Royal Plum
Prunus domestica ‘Mount Royal’
Fruit: Plum
| Height: 13-16′ | Width: 8-10′ |
| Sun: Full Sun | Zone: 3 |
Small tree with an open, vase-shaped canopy. Clusters of fragrant, white spring blooms cover the tree before green foliage appears; yellow fall colour. Medium size fruit with blue skin and yellow, firm flesh; freestone. Juicy, mild, sub-acid taste; good for fresh eating and great for processing (canning, jams, drying). Ripens late summer (late August). Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. For major pruning wait until late winter while tree is dormant; suckers or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime. Prune while young to create open centered branching to allow for even sunlight which results in better ripening of fruit and good air circulation.
Self-pollinating but does benefit from having another variety within 100′ to cross-pollinate.
Available in select potted sizes.
