Valentine Cherry
Prunus x kerrasis ‘Valentine’
Fruit: Cherry
| Height: 6-10′ | Width: 4-6′ |
| Sun: Full Sun | Zone: 3 |
Small, rounded, spreading, hardy cherry tree. Clusters of lightly fragrant, showy, white, spring blossoms appear before glossy, dark-green foliage that matures to yellow in fall. High-yielding, medium-red fruit with red flesh and a hard pit. Sour-tart taste and firm texture make it best for processing (canning, freezing, cooking, pies, etc.). Ripens mid to late summer. Excellent for small yards. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Not much pruning is necessary, if needed, prune in late winter while tree is dormant; suckers or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime.
Self-pollinating.
Available in select potted and caliper sizes.
