Large, upright, native, very hardy shrub. Long clusters of white spring blooms and coarse, oval, green foliage that turns yellow in fall. Small, sour, purple-black chokecherries ripen in summer and can be used in preserves, jam, and wine-making. Attracts birds. Tends to sucker; plant is primarily used for reclamation and naturalization purposes. Prefers moist, well-drained soil and is drought tolerant once established. If needed, prune in late winter while shrub is dormant; suckers, or dead, broken, and diseased branches can be removed anytime.
Self-pollinating: plant in pairs for best fruit yield.
Available in select potted sizes.
