| Height: 6-8′ | Width: 6-10′ |
| Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 2 |
Upright, wide-spreading, showy, hardy shrub.
Stunning, light-pink blooms cover the branches in spring before small, toothed, fuzzy, green foliage appears; bright yellow fall colour. Small, bright-red, tart, juicy berries with a small pit; ripens in summer. Fruit is mainly used for jellies and sometimes in wine making. Attracts birds. Peeling, red-brown bark adds winter interest. Great as accent shrub or used as hedging. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Not much pruning is necessary, if needed, prune in late winter while shrub is dormant; suckers or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime.
Self-pollinating. Also used to
pollinate early-blooming Plum trees (Brookgold Plum, Pfitsen #5 Plum) and Apricot trees.
Available in select potted sizes.
