Westcot Apricot
Prunus mandschurica ‘Westcot’
Fruit: Apricot
| Height: 16-20′ | Width: 12-16′ |
| Sun: Full Sun | Zone: 3 |
Small, upright-spreading tree. Showy, light pink flowers in early spring and pointy, oval, green foliage. Golden-yellow, 1-1.5″ size, firm, meaty fruit with a hardy pit; ripens in August. Good for fresh eating and jam. Due to our cold Southern Alberta winters, Apricots aren’t reliable for fruit production: winter temperature below minus 35°C will kill any flower buds and no fruit will be produced that season. A sheltered protection (especially from northern wind) is recommended. Needs well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer prior to new spring growth. Prune as needed in late winter while tree is dormant; suckers or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime.
Requires another Apricot Tree or a Nanking Cherry within 100′ for cross pollination.
Available in select potted sizes.
