Malus baccata ‘Dolgo’

Fruit: Applecrab

Height: 20-26′ Width: 13-16′
Sun: Full Sun Zone: 2

Open, spreading crown on this hardy apple tree. Fragrant, white blooms followed by 1.5″ sized, tart, red, with yellow flesh, edible fruit used mainly for jelly or fresh eating. Ripens in late summer. Green foliage matures to yellow in fall. Needs well-drained soil but tolerates many other soil types. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. For major pruning wait until late winter while tree is dormant; suckers and dead, broken, or diseased branches, can be removed anytime. Prune when young to create open centered branching to allow for even sunlight which results in better ripening of fruit and good air circulation.

Requires another variety of apple tree within 500′ for cross-pollination (approximately one city block).

Available in select potted sizes.
