Lonicera caerulea ‘Borealis’

Fast growing, productive, very hardy shrub with fruit that is considered nutrient packed, antioxidant superfood. Dense, green foliage and small, pale-yellow flowers in spring. Large, soft fruit that has a sweet-tangy flavour with blue skin and a white blush and red flesh when ripe. Considered the best tasting Haskap by many gardeners. Great for fresh eating, jams and baking. Ripens July to early August. Usually bears fruit 1-2 years after planting. Also called Honeyberry and Blue Honeysuckle. Very low maintenance, non-suckering, pest and disease free plant that is easy to grow. Prefers moist, well-drained soil; drought tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Haskaps produce on one year wood so pruning back a few older branches each spring (about 10% of the plant), while the shrub is still dormant, will create new branches ensuring fruit production for future years.
Haskaps need to be cross-pollinated and require two different cultivars planted close by to produce fruit. Borealis Haskap is pollinated by any of the following: Aurora, Polar Jewel, and Berry Blue.
Available in select potted sizes.
