Large, upright, thorny shrub. Narrow, silvery-green foliage and tiny, yellow spring flowers. Clusters of edible, orange-yellow berries on this female sea buckthorn. Fruit is tart with some sweetness, ripening in late August/early September. Berries have great health benefits and are high in vitamin C, A, and E and are great for juice. The roots are nitrogen fixing meaning they restore nitrogen from the air back into the soil. Suckering habit; can be planted as a barrier hedge or used for stabilization purposes. Prefers dry, alkaline soil and is salt tolerant once established. Little pruning is necessary; if needed prune in late winter/early spring while shrub is dormant, damaged, dead, or broken branches can be pruned anytime.
Russian Orange is a variety of Sea Buckthorn that is female and needs a male pollinator (hippophae rhamnoides) to set fruit through wind pollination.
Available in select potted sizes.
