Large, thorny, hardy shrub. Narrow, silvery-green foliage and tiny, yellow spring flowers. Clusters of edible, bright orange berries on the female plant have great health benefits and are high in vitamin C, A, and E. Fruit has an intense flavour; ripens in September and persists into winter. The roots are nitrogen fixing meaning they restore nitrogen from the air back into the soil. Suckering habit; can be planted as a barrier hedge or used for stabilization purposes. Prefers dry, alkaline soil and is salt tolerant once established. Little pruning is necessary; if needed prune in late winter/early spring while shrub is dormant, damaged, dead, or broken branches can be pruned anytime.

Sea buckthorn are either male or female: the female plant needs a male pollinator for fruit production through wind pollination, the male does not carry fruit. The male plant is hippophae rhamnoides, female plant is hippophae rhamnoides ‘Leikora’ or ‘Otradnaya’.

Available in select potted sizes.
