Globe Cedar
Thuja occidentalis ‘Woodwardii’
Evergreen: Globe Cedar
| Height: 5-7′ | Width: 5-7′ |
| Sun: Part to Full Shade | Zone: 2 |
Large, globe-shaped evergreen with dense, bright green, soft and flattened, scale-like foliage. Faster growing cedar variety. Can be sheared to maintain a denser, more global shape if needed. Sometimes called ‘Woodward’s Cedar’. Great evergreen accent plant or used as a hedge in shady locations. In Southern Alberta Cedars require a spot with no exposure to drying northwest wind and southwest sun. Mulching around base will help retain moisture in summer. Heavy watering in fall a few weeks before freeze-up will prevent roots being damaged from cold, dry soil and minimize winter browning. Prefers moist to wet, fertile, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Little pruning needed but if desired can be sheared while new growth is actively growing in spring and before it has started to harden off.
Available in select potted sizes.
