Attractive, columnar pine with tight, upright branches and twisted, blue-green needles in bundles of 2. Showy, orange-red, shaggy bark with maturity and small cones. Slow-growing variety. Does best in a sheltered site in zone 3: protect from strong winter winds and damage from heavy snow. Great vertical accent tree for small spaces or used as a specimen tree. Prefers moist, well-drained soil; drought tolerant once established but does not tolerate standing water. Little pruning necessary; shear or pinch new growth (candles) when actively growing in late spring/early summer to control size but is not needed. Dead or broken branches can be removed as needed.
