Large, pyramidal, fast-growing pine with dense, long, dark green needles in bunches of 2. Thick, grey-brown, furrowed bark and light brown cones that turn darker with age. Good specimen evergreen for large areas or used as a shelterbelt or in mass plantings. Prefers moist, well-drained soil but is drought and wind tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. New growth (candles) can be pinched back or sheared while actively growing in late spring to encourage more full growth but isn’t required; heavy pruning should be done before new growth emerges in late winter/early spring; dead or broken branches can be removed as needed.
Available in select potted sizes.
