Hoopsii Blue Spruce
Picea pungens ‘Hoopsii’
Evergreen: Spruce
| Height: 30-33′ | Width: 8-10′ |
| Sun: Full Sun | Zone: 2 |
Narrow, irregular-pyramidal evergreen with short, strikingly silver-blue needles. Long, narrow cones and a s-curved trunk with large, thick branches. One of the bluest of all spruce; holds its colour very well. Very hardy, interesting character tree that makes a good vertical accent tree or used in the foundation. Prefers slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soil and is drought and wind tolerant once established (do not let stand in water). Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Soil can be top-dressed with aluminum sulfate if needed to intensify blue colour. Little pruning needed: prune broken or dead branches as needed, heavy pruning should be done late winter/early spring before new growth emerges.
Available in select potted and caliper sizes.
