Picea pungens ‘Fastigiata’

Evergreen: Spruce

Height: 20′ Width: 6-8′
Sun: Full Sun Zone: 2

Showy, upright, columnar spruce with short, stiff needles that emerge bright blue and mature to silvery-blue. Very dense and upright branching, with rough grey bark. Hardy, slow-growing and very low maintenance making it an ideal specimen plant, great for small spaces or used as a screen. Good alternative for pyramidal cedars in a sunny, exposed location. Prefers slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soil and is drought and wind tolerant once established (do not let stand in water). Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Soil can be top-dressed with aluminum sulfate if needed to intensify blue colour. Little pruning needed: prune broken or dead branches as needed, heavy pruning should be done late winter/early spring before new growth emerges. Can be sheared for a more formal look while tree is actively growing in early summer by trimming back the new growth by one-third.

Available in select potted and caliper sizes.
