Picea pungens ‘Baby Blue’
Evergreen: Juniper (Spreading)
| Height: 50-60′ | Width: 16-20′ |
| Sun: Full Sun | Zone: 2 |
Intensely blue, short, stiff needles on this tall, pyramidal evergreen. Very dense branching and needles and requires no shearing to improve fullness. Blue colour intensifies with age. Slow-growing, dependable evergreen that is cold hardy. Great large accent evergreen tree or windbreak or shelterbelt tree. Prefers slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soil and is drought and wind tolerant once established (do not let stand in water). Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Soil can be top-dressed with aluminum sulfate if needed to intensify blue colour. Little pruning needed: prune broken or dead branches as needed, heavy pruning should be done late winter/early spring before new growth emerges. Can be sheared for a more formal look while tree is actively growing in early summer by trimming back the new growth by one-third.
Available in select potted and caliper sizes.
