Ohlendorffi Spruce
Picea abies ‘Ohlendorffi’
Evergreen: Spruce
| Height: 5-10′ | Width: 4-6′ |
| Sun: Full to Part Sun | Zone: 2 |
Dwarf, dense evergreen that starts out with an irregular mounding shape and becomes more broadly-conical with age. Very short, dark green needles that emerge soft and light green; brown winter buds. Very slow-growing variety that makes an excellent specimen evergreen in the border and rock gardens. Can reach up to 15-18′ tall but will take many years to get that size. Great hardy substitute for Dwarf Alberta Spruce. Prefers moist, well-drained soil and is chinook tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Requires little or no pruning: if desired, new growth can be sheared back lightly while actively growing, dead and broken branches can be removed anytime.
Available in select potted and caliper sizes.
