Upright, columnar, densely leafed specimen tree. Green-yellow spring flowers and purple-red foliage maturing to deep purple in fall. Good specimen plant for narrow spaces. Needs a sheltered location in zone 3. Prefers acidic soil that is moist and well-drained. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Prune as necessary only when tree is in full-leaf, about beginning of July.
