Striking, deep-purple, lobed foliage on an oval, dense canopy. Tiny yellow spring blooms and grey bark. Prefers acidic soil that is moist and well-drained. Good large specimen tree. Needs a sheltered location in zone 3. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Prune as necessary only when tree is in full-leaf, about beginning of July.
