Standing Ovation Saskatoon
Amelanchier alnifolia ‘Obelisk’
Fruit: Saskatoon
Height: 16′ | Width: 3-5′ |
Sun: Full Sun | Zone: 2 |
Tall, upright and narrow growth habit on this hardy shrub or small tree. White spring flowers and oval, green foliage that turns to orange in fall. Small, purple-blue berries with a sweet, firm texture; great for fresh eating, jams, pies, and freezing. Ripens in July. Great accent plant for small areas. Also known as Juneberry or Serviceberry. Prefers moist, well-drained soil with best fruit production in full sun; drought tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Not much pruning is needed: thick, unproductive branches should be pruned in early spring before new growth emerges; suckers, or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime.
Self-pollinating but planting another variety close by will increase fruit yield.
Available in select potted sizes.
