St. Mary's Broom Colorado Spruce
Picea pungens ‘St. Mary’s Broom’
Evergreen: Spruce
Height: 2-3′ | Width: 3-5′ |
Sun: Full Sun | Zone: 2 |
Dwarf, mounded evergreen with strikingly silver-blue needles. Doesn’t form a leader and creates a spreading, mounded, dense form. Holds its colour well. Hardy, slow-growing spruce that is great as a low, colour-accent shrub in the border. Prefers slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soil and is drought and wind tolerant once established (do not let stand in water). Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Soil can be top-dressed with aluminum sulfate if needed to intensify blue colour. Little pruning needed: prune broken or dead branches as needed, heavy pruning should be done late winter/early spring before new growth emerges.
Available in select potted sizes.
