Attractive, single purple flowers are edged in white, opening from red-purple buds. Strongly scented, spring blooms on large, upright panicles. Smooth, heart shaped foliage on a vigorous growing, hardy, dense shrub. Specimen plant in large areas; suckering habit makes it great for hedges and screening. Good cut flower. Best flowering in full sun. Prefers moist, well drained soil but is drought tolerant once established. Fertilize in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Lilacs bloom on old wood: prune right after flowering is finished to allow next years flower buds to set and to promote strong new growth, suckers can be pruned anytime.
