Rouge Cardinal Clematis

Clematis ‘Rouge Cardinal’

Vines: Clematis

Height: 10′ Width: 2-4′
Sun: Full to Part Sun Zone: 4

Showy, velvety crimson-red, open flowers (4-6″ wide) with brownish-yellow stamens that bloom from early summer to early fall. Bright green, oval foliage on this vigorous climber. Good cut flower. Requires a support structure to climb such as a trellis or wall. Clematis prefer moist, well-drained soil: keep roots cool in summer and protected in winter by covering them with compost or mulch. Fertilize in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Blooms new wood (current seasons). Group C/3 pruning: must be pruned back late winter/early spring before new growth begins and old vines should be removed. Prune back heavily to about 1′ above ground level, leaving about 2-3 buds per stem. If desired, can be pruned back after first flush of flowers to encourage more blooms and better branching.

Available in select potted sizes.
