Sambucus nigra ‘Madonna’
|Height: 6-8′||Width: 6-7′|
|Sun: Full to Part Sun||Zone: 4|
Variegated green foliage with creamy-yellow edges on a fast-growing, vigorous shrub. Flat-topped, white flower clusters in late spring/early summer are followed by ornamental, small purple-black berries in fall that attract birds. Best foliage colour in full sun. Great specimen or background plant. Prefers moist, rich, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. May die back to the snowline in zone 3 but as a vigorous grower it will regrow quickly; prune out any dead wood as needed. Prune in late winter/early spring before new growth emerges to control size or to rejuvenate old stems and to keep plant compact and bushy.
Available in select potted sizes.
