Small, slow-growing, showy ornamental tree. Clusters of white spring blooms turn into red berries that persist into winter and attract birds. Dark-green, lobed foliage turns a brilliant orange-red in fall. Showy specimen tree for small yards. Mountain ash need fertile, well-drained soil, light sandy is preferred; do not plant in low-lying, wet areas or in compacted soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Little pruning needed, if necessary prune in late winter/early spring while tree is dormant, dead branches can be removed anytime.
