Hardy, small, slow growing, graceful tree with irregular, weeping branches. Round, serrated, green foliage turns yellow in fall. Attractive white bark peels with maturity. Used as a small specimen tree. Birch need very moist, rich, fertile, and well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or all purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Prune as necessary only when tree is in full-leaf, about beginning of July.
