Small, compact, very hardy cherry tree or shrub. Clusters of lightly fragrant, white, spring blooms and glossy, dark-green foliage that turns yellow in fall. Bountiful, dark-red to purple skin with purple flesh and a hard pit. Sour-sweet, tart taste; good for eating fresh, great for processing (canning, freezing, cooking, pies, etc.). Ripens in late July. Romance series. Low suckering habit; excellent for small yards. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Fertilize in spring with a good compost or an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges. Not much pruning is necessary, if needed, prune in late winter while tree is dormant; suckers or dead, broken, and diseased branches, can be removed anytime.
